THIS CAT IS BAD

«Mo» a was Manx
and graced
with abnormally high rates
of testosterone
A kitten with his back arched
side stepping his broadside forward
as self-deluded irresistible force
Ready and
Oh so willing to fight and kill
For what was his
And Everything belonged to him
or as need be
whether or not hungry he’d be
Stocking his prey
with stealth and cunning
Narrowing the distance till
In an instant they’d be
Pounced On and Eaten Leaving Nothing!
just as it had been
before the attack but he swatted at
and slashed and trashed the imaginary
so-easily-defeat able things That Were Everywhere!
not even the air was spared
They were above him or around him
across the room being swiftly run down
or cleverly hiding behind him
he found them diving
through his own hind legs
to smite them upside down
role ‘em around on his belly before biting
then dart behind something
some human left out to hide behind
to
ambush the next one
that never saw it coming
Nowhere!
Was there anywhere safe!
“Mercy” was just a word as far away
as the phrase
“Here kitty kitty” and
They Didn’t Have a Chance!
and it happened
time and time again
How a sweet little imaginary thing
not expecting anything
was simply devoured and gone
And Nobody could stop him!
And
neither was any human foot immune
and as Mo grew
it was only cute when wearing shoes
Then
there were the table legs
The Pants cuffs
Oh My God a long flowing skirt!
String dangling in front of him
And the toilet paper?
had to be put in the cupboard
The Fish in the aquarium?
Hah!
They didn’t have a clue
about how any of ‘em
Owed their asses
to the man
Who invented the piece of glass
that Mo repeatedly smacked into
When populations
of invisible things were depleted
I’d open the fish tank lid
Mo would jump up to perch on the light fixture
his glance darted quickly
his eyes following the fishes
Then
he’d wash his claws
trying to figure out how
to get around the water!
Brothers and Sisters he’d bowl over
Whenever he wanted to
But particularly when frustrated about
wet feet
and no fish to eat
When Mo grew up
It wasn’t good
being a tomcat in the neighborhood
Because
Mo was Absolutely Huge!
no tail, white spotted grey
Loved mating in broad daylight
in the neighbor’s driveway
Shoulders square and fur extremely short
Leaving nothing to the imagination
about
Just how big he was
I loved him
I miss him
this was a long time ago
He’s in Cat Heaven

GATO MALO

“Mo” era manés
y agraciado
con altos niveles de
testosterona
Un gatito con la espalda arqueada
que daba cada paso
como una fuerza irresistible y narcisista
Listo y
oh tan dispuesto a luchar y asesinar
¡y nadie pudo detenerlo!
Y ningún pie humano era inmune
A medida que Mo crecía
sólo me parecía lindo cuando usaba zapatos
entonces
le quedaban las patas de la mesa
Pero oh las botas de los pantalones
oh Dios una falda suelta y larga
una cuerda colgando frente a él
¿Y el papel higiénico?
Había que guardarlo en el armario
¿El pez en la pecera?
Hilarante
no tienen idea
Hombros cuadrados y pelaje corto
no dejaba nada a la imaginación
con su tamaño
Lo amaba
y ahora lo extraño
Eso fue hace mucho tiempo
Está en el Cielo de los Gatos

DREAMS

I used to dream about my wedding day
Marrying Annette Funicello with pointy breasts
only much larger like my mother’s are
Annette was wearing a low V-cut black dress
standing on the seat of chair by the table with the cake
She’s so Pretty!
I was highly esteemed
Everybody was middle-aged and I was an adult with all the details and things about being an adult taken care of
I was successful and getting married made me the center of attention

We were all looking up at Annette with streamers and dots in a thin cloudy blue fog slowly falling in an arch over her
And that mystery about what brings boys and girls together I knew it

Laughter and happiness and excitement from everywhere!
Everybody was happy for me and Annette too

Annette had a little delicate glass made of glass with triangular angles like an hour glass only this one was made for drinking things mostly at weddings
Fairly far behind Annette a strong beam of light angled sharply downward lit the armrest of a church pew but cast no glare in the room
It wasn’t Sunday, this wasn’t church, everybody’s clothes were like church clothes only better
There was a big car it was mine and I’d drive away with Annete in it after the wedding
She was happy with me I could tell by her smiles and that’s why we were joining our lives
I did something during the day living a life of an adult happy

When my bride and I were finally alone because you know
it takes a long time for people to go home
She’d take off her clothes and I would look at her breasts and then feel them

And for a long time too!
But that part I’d have to tell to myself in words
Because the picture of bare breasts, large and pointy, was something I could only keep for a split second no matter how hard I tried to keep it longer
I knew what girl’s breasts looked like from that accidental glance by the girl’s cabin made of wood where:
swim suits were changed into
at a lake during a church retreat
Skin sacks with a softball in ‘em hanging down but that was Mrs. Alvey’s and she’s fat
Sometimes mom walked into the bathroom in a hurry wearing a bra
and Annette!
I saw her on TV, The Mickey Mouse Club
But it was that add for a movie I never saw
Even with clothes on her breasts were small pointy and cute
Mrs. Alvey’s weren’t cute at all
I wasn’t sure I enjoyed seeing ‘em even though it was interesting
But I knew I’d feel Annette’s for a long time. I was pretty sure that’s what adults do and even if they don’t that’s what I would do

Then I’d see a little movie of walking to the parking lot with adults around us wishing us well as we got closer to my car
I sat behind the steering wheel, Annette in the front seat, we were waving good-bye to everybody around the car going really slow then
Car on the road, trees and telephone poles passing by, Annette’s hair in the breeze and she’s smiling
I would remember Annette standing on the seat of that chair by the table with the cake so pretty and admired and now she was gonna be with me living life

I wondered about that thing that made people friends
It had to be something of the same but different and stronger and special when it was between a boy and a girl
Mom and dad argued, sometimes loud, but that’s just them
Me and my girl would have something special and happy
When I would become an adult, I’d find out but for now I would never ever tell my brother or my friends I dreamed about my wedding day because that was something only girls did but I didn’t believe that either and I dreamed that dream many times anyway.

TODDLER IN THE FRONT PORCH ROCKER

Once upon a time long long ago
there were Women on earth
that were so cute and small
They had perky tits
and sang and danced and
ran on meadow grass
uh
When they weren’t practicing prancing
or laughing
that is
But they played
throughout the day
a good while
Singing and smiling
Splashing feet in creeks
or hide and go seeking,
Pounding sand on beaches
so frogs would jump over things
Or games they hadn’t played in a long time
Or make up new ones that were just fine
and
Sometimes they pretended to be pooping
just to chirp
at a make-believe turd
that was a huge one!
Then pinching nose
saying with nasal tone:
“Oh golly gee! How wonderfully soothing!”
And laughter would splatter
under such silly circumstances
with antics of bantering blather prevailing
And pervaded
with facts and such
a bunch of stuff just made up
Finagling the debating
with butt cheeks waggling
til finally proclaiming
we are:
“The Silliest of the Sillies”
Hiding behind trees giggling
not listening to
cute disputes
that’d be forgotten anyway
pretty soon
Oh they tumbled and laughed!
ate snacks and hardly ever relaxed
Threw big blobs of fluffy stuff
at each other many times but
Not usually while foraging for tubers and shoots
and nuts and berries and
all kinds of fruit
Plus twigs’ sticks and
let’s not forget cucumber!
Oh and
that yellow fuzzy stuff
that’s got to be gotten from under
Logs or rocks or whatever’s covering it
to take it to
the place they do
all sorts of things to it
for dinner!
And when they were sleeping
they were almost always dreaming
About things they can imagine
and being really silly at it!
and
For all this time of living
whether singing or smiling
they hardly ever wore
anything on their hineys
The Men likewise were small
but a bit faster
They liked to climb trees
say nice things
and were prone to laughter
They could lift heavier things
if they had to
but druther
Skip rocks on water
or something else funnier
or pretend to be pooping poop
because
They were just like the women!
except for the tits
and with
different genitalia and
they weren’t very hairy anywhere
except on their heads
They liked to play and laugh a lot
more than
look for things to eat or tidy up
And sing and dance and
run on meadow grass
and
For all this time of living
whether singing or smiling
the men
hardly ever wore
anything
on their hineys
The Air was Cleaner
filled with floating creatures
with huge silk wings
that fluttered or teetered
Blossoms blooming high in trees
rained pink petals on the breeze
wafting through the air
here and there
giving just a hint of
a sweet scent
Everywhere!
There were lots more green
and lots more trees
and lakes and rivers and creeks
to pee in
T’was never too hot or cold
nothing bit or stung them so
They roamed and played
and
made lots of babies
Which grow
into toddlers
with diapers
full of shit now and then
So dads or neighbors
Moms or brothers
Sisters
cousins or
those never met before
Powdered their butts
after cleaning ‘em up
tickling their tummies
and teachin ‘em how to talk
and showin’ ‘em what to pluck
and what to watch out for
but
Education wasn’t the aim
They were just playing games!
And Everyone Absolutely Loved
Everyone Else’s Company!
And words like:
Love
Abundance,
Gratitude ‘n Harmony
wasn’t
the vocabulary
They never bothered describing it
Living life moment to moment
And if you doubt this is true
Well,
Look deep
into your true self
Because
that’s the way it was
long long ago

UN NIÑO EN LA MECEDORA DEL PÓRTICO DELANTERO

Érase una vez hace mucho mucho tiempo
que habían mujeres en la tierra
lindas y pequeñas
que tenían senos turgentes
y cantaban y bailaban
corrían por el prado
entre la yerba
Y cuando no lo hacían
oh
practicaban cabriolas
o reían
¡eso es!
pero jugaban
durante todo el día
Chapoteaban los pies en los arroyuelos
se escondían las unas de las otras
arrojando arena sobre las playas
con las ranas saltando por la costa
Jugaban juegos que habían
olvidado o inventado
y
no mientras buscaban tubérculos y brotes
y nueces y bayas y
todo tipo de frutas
además de ramitas y palos y
¡no nos olvidemos de los pepinos!
Oh y
a veces
Así que padres o vecinos
madres o hermanos
primos o aquellos que no habían conocido
empolvaban los traseros
de los niños
les hacían cosquillas en la barriga
les enseñaban a hablar
y qué arrancar
y cómo cuidar
pero sólo jugaban
se amaban los unos a los otros
en compañía de todos los demás
Y palabras como
abundancia
amor
gratitud y armonía
no eran parte de su vocabulario
nunca se molestan en describirlas
Vivían la vida de momento en momento
si lo dudas
bueno
mira en tu real ser interior
porque así fue
hace mucho mucho tiempo
